It’s Just A Baby

babyCongratulations to Kate and William, Duchess and Duke of Cambridge, on the birth of their baby boy on Monday. We look forward to hearing what you going to name him.

There! Done. Dusted. Move over. Get on with it.

Now I know he is the third in line to the throne. And, I know he is going to grow up as a prince in the full glare of the paparazzi. But, can we move on now please?

This saga has been on-going and dominating the UK and world news for far, far too long. Now, I am a proud Brit (or a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland if you prefer), a patriot, and far from being a Republican (although Prince Charles could swing that!) but I think that the media attention this event is getting is ridiculous.

We have had the endless interviews with midwives and with mothers who also had babies on the same day. We have seen the Middletons’ visit (did I miss Pippa’s bottom?). We have endured Charles and Camilla and the smarmy congratulations of every politician of every political persuasion. We have had the gun salutes and heard the massed bands of the Guards play “Congratulations”.

And still we have the endless speculation about what they are going to call him. Why? Should he ever become King then he can choose his own regnal name.

No doubt this current wave of monarchistic marvel will soon segue into an endless round of speculation about whether the Queen will now abdicate. I hope she does – she should go out on a high and with her health and mind intact. And, to be honest, the sooner we get the reign of Charles (if we must) over and done with and out-of-the-way the better!

No doubt there will be calls for Charles to be skipped over in favour of Wills. I am thinking of starting a petition! Perhaps Simon Cowell can organise a public vote on the matter…

But, the likelihood is that the new baby Cambridge is unlikely to get anywhere near becoming King until his 60s at least.

And, in the meantime people are dying in Syria. People are dying in Egypt. There are riots on the streets of Brazil. And, there is the endless speculation as to whether Wayne Rooney will leave Manchester for Chelsea.

It really is time to move on. Can we have some real news please?

And should I turn the internet and radio off too?

And, speaking of “grumpy” – what have you got against London? It is one of the best cities in the world…
