The Oscars: Lincoln

This weekend, weather permitting, I am hoping to get to see the Oscar-nominated movie,  “Lincoln”, starring Daniel Day-Lewis and directed by Steven Spielberg.

Certainly the film is jam-packed with actors of quality, and they definitely have not scrimped on the quality of production. The film has already won a Golden Globe (best actor for Daniel) and has twelve Oscar nominations.

I just hope that it can live up to that other Abraham Lincoln movie that I caught on a plane recently (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter). I found that one very entertaining and compelling. And, to be honest, the whole vampire thing made much more sense of American politics at the time than I suspect Spielberg’s version will!

But, I will try to keep an open mind……

I have to say that Lincoln was very disappointing, despite the fantastic cast and wonderful acting. The film was far too wordy and Spielberg failed to explain the political context very well, or the motivation of individuals for changing their minds or not. I genuinely preferred Lincoln as a latterday Buffy!

Spileberg should stick to aliens methinks.
