Apple TV Sucks……..

Caveat emptor….
Mr Gadget is not happy.
PI have today returned my second generation Apple TV back to the shop and had my money refunded. And, I am so unhappy that I had to do so. I loved the concept – the whole idea of instantly downloading movies.
Well, my idea of “instantly” seems a tad different o Apple’s. I wold have been ecstatic with less than a minute; I would have accepted less than fifteen. But, our first rental took nearly two hours to download, and, when we then hit play, it needed to reload which took a further hour. Unacceptable!
And after a number of Google searches it quickly became apparent that we were not the only sufferers. It seems to be a common error. With suspicions failing to find an obvious cause and no obvious solution it just had to go back. I can get to the video shop and back ten times in the time it took to download that movie – and the film stank too: Troll Hunter.
Does anyone know if Netflix is any good?

I have heard of users putting Boxee onto the Apple TV’s. Boxee is much more flexible and also links into NetFlix. I use Boxee on a stand alone PC in the bedroom and it works a treat. Links into the NAS via my home network allowing me to stream movies or music when needed.
PS3’s have provision for Love Film as well, which streams it quite quickly.
It just seems that Apple’s vision isn’t always the best.

Have Netflix, music, and pictures working great. Haven’t tried the movie yet. At $100 for HD Netflix, I’m a happy camper. (Now if I could just get espn360.com on the ATV…)
