Pesky Cows!

So, last week my Virgin Pendilino to London Euston was delayed for seventy minutes because of “cattle on the line”.

“Cattle”? That is not a word oft used in these here parts. Not cows but cattle. In any case, there must have been a fair few of them for it to have taken so long to have round them up.

This made me late for a very important meeting. This added to my stress levels. If I had been driving the train I’d have been tempted to drive right through – at least we could have enjoyed a BBQ while we were waiting. (Apologies to my Hindu friends!).

Maybe this did indeed happen (not the BBQ bit) because while our train was being held, two freight trains hurtled past us in the same direction. Or maybe not – I am fairly sure that blood on the line would also have brought the mighty West Coast line to a standstill.

Well, today started badly too. I got soaked on my dash from the car park to Crewe Station. Well not so much of a dash as a quickish walk. Consequently I am sitting in a rather damp Boss Lycra mix.

Just after leaving Crewe, they announced that the train would be terminating at Stafford due to “a safety issue”. Surely not cow parts clogging the engine?

We were told we would be swapping with the passengers of a northbound train. I thought it strange that our broken train was good enough to travel north with a bunch of Southern types on board . Good luck to them.

On the downside, and on top of the thirty minute delay, our new train has no hot drinks and no full English grill.

Woe is me!

Thanks Mr Branson ……
