I’m just glad that he hasn’t kept picking Garry O’Connor! He is surely not Premiership class? He only makes it into the Scottish squad after every other Scottish striker pulls out with injury. It is no accident that last season’s record run of unbeaten games began with the tattooed buffoon’s injury.
So, the transfer window slammed shut last night with the Big Eck (Alex McLeish) adding three quality players to enhance the Birmingham City FC squad – Martin Jiranek, Jean Beausejour, and, Alexander Hleb. A central defender, and two midfield players. Two midfield players and a central defender?! Everyone knows we needed a left back and a proven gold scorer……
Now don’t get me wrong. I am very pleased that players such as Hleb want to come and play for Birmingham rather than sitting on the bench at Anfield or Tottenham. I am also glad that we have yet to be inundated with an influx of unproven Chinese players or ex-Rangers players such as the chief bottler Kris Boyd. And, N’Zogbia was trouble just waiting to happen. But, I am not sure that a lack of wide players was necessarily the problem. I do worry about the Scotsman’s tactical nous.
But, I refuse to complain too much. McLeish has brought more success than the team has seen since 1963. There is a smell of hope and optimism in the air. With, Aston Villa in some disarray, and Wolves and the Baggies yet to show any mettle, I hope that will leave Birmingham and Stoke to battle it out for the pride of the Midlands.
Well I can dream can’t I. Keep right on…….
